These were both taken a good 5-7 feet away with a 55-200mm lens in low light, i’m definitely not using all 22 megapixels. But hey i just unboxed this thing like 2 hours ago and i wanted to use it

Cool! I’ve used that camera lots, it’s great. I don’t know how experienced you are with DSLRs so sorry if this sounds childish or whatever, but I do the majority of my point and shoot shots on Aperture Priority, that’s the little “A” on the spin dial on top. Then use the rotary selector to adjust your aperture. In the case of the photos above, it’s blurry because in the low light, your shutter speed was a bit slow, and so the movement of your hand translated into the picture. If you set it to a larger aperture (a smaller number), more light gets through the lens and your shutter speed will go up big time, making the shot really crisp. You lose some depth of field, but in low light, it’s the best option. That and raising or raising the ISO. Were you shooting on auto?

I was using manual mode and i do roughly know what most of the settings do but since this is my first “proper” DSLR i’m still pretty green to this.
